Transportation of harbour mobile crane LHM 550 to Novorossiysk

A Liebherr’s 944 480-tonne mobile harbour crane of LHM 550 series arrived at the Port of Novorossiysk in 2021.

The Customer agreed to carry out the work at the beginning of December 2021, when the barge had already been prepared for winter lay-up at the Port of Azov with no tugs available at the time. However, after the prompt conclusion of the contract, the barge was brought back into service within two days.

To implement the transportation project, it was necessary to dismantle the deck stern equipment to roll on the crane. All work was completed within 24 hours. We chartered a third-party tugboat at night-time, and in the morning the ATB departed the Port of Azov to Novorossiysk, port of delivery.

The cargo transportation was carried out under certain weather restrictions: wind up to 10 m/s, which is an extremely rare occurrence for Novorossiysk in winter season. We were lucky and successfully completed the task!

We applied nine meter long steel sheets to perform the loading operation, instead of using ramps, according to the project.

Morwenna Shipping has 6m-long ramps available for hire to be used for rolling-on Ro-Ro cargo.
