Rent of a barge for the construction of a railway bridge branch in Moscow

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Period: 2022-2024

Routes: Moscow Canal in the area of Levoberezhnaya station of Oktyabrskaya railway station

Project fleet: RoRo barge “Morwenna-2001”, carrying capacity 2040 tons

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION:

Work began in November 2022.

The barge was used as a floating support during the construction of an additional branch of the railway bridge.

January, 2024 – the process of assembling the central span of the bridge has begun. A structure was installed on the barge, which supported the central span during its movement to the right bank.

March, 2024 – a unique operation to close a 132-meter navigable span weighing 2,263 tons. The process took 38 hours. First, the span was shifted so that it rested on the support of the barge, and then the barge and the span began to be lagged towards the right bank. At the end of the operation, the span was temporarily supported.

For reference: The Khimki Railway Bridge is a single–span bridge over the Khimki Reservoir on 49.9 km of the Moscow Canal. It is located in the Moscow region between the Levoberezhnaya platform and the Khimki station. The project was developed by engineer A.A. Belogolov. The opening took place on November 4, 1935. In 2022-2025, a new bridge was built for the Moscow–St. Petersburg high-speed railway line.
