Pilot operations during towing the semi-submersible heavy-lift barge YURI KUVYKIN were successfully completed on the Kaliningrad Sea Canal.
The SSB was transporting equipment for installing a riser block platform on an offshore ice-resistance fixed platform (OIRFP) in the southeastern part of the Baltic Sea, in the coastal waters of Russia.
This operation appeared to be quite a challenging one due to the large dimensions of the cargo and the huge size of the barge, which was twice as large as a standard vessel designed for passage via the Kaliningrad Canal.
Despite strong winds and adverse weather conditions, the towing was completed successfully and on time.
