TASKS of the AHTS IEVOLI ORANGE:

  • Towing of the Caspian Explorer drilling ship (IMO: 9605671, YB: 2012, Shipyard: Tuzla)
  • Response to potential emergency situations, including Level 2 oil spill respons.

PROJECT EXECUTION: 

To conduct exploratory drilling, including well abandonment at the Abay block, Morwenna deployed seven AHTSs and ERRVs, including the IEVOLI ORANGE, and the Caspian Explorer drilling ship with two support barges.

The main challenge during the operation was the difficult conditions, including the drilling ship dimensions (LOA: 100 meters; Breadth: 40 meters) and shallow water depths on the route;

The Abay block is located in in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, 60-70 km north of the coast of the Buzachi Peninsula. The water depths in the area is 6 to 8 meters. The block territory is about 1252 sqkm. The nearest ports of call are the following: Bautino (160 km), ATYRAU (150 km), Astrakhan (250 km), Aktau (250 km). The design depth of the Abay-1 well is 2 500 m.

The AHTS IEVOLI ORANGE was outfitted for oil spill containment and recovery (OSRP). The tugboat crew expressed special gratitude to the oil spill response specialists who worked on board the AHTS IEVOLI ORANGE.
